12-Point Bolt

A 12-point bolt, also known as a double-hex is a high-strength fastener designed for applications in the aerospace and defense industries, transportation industry, heavy equipment and mining, and industrial manufacturing. They feature a 12-spline design with superior gripping surfaces versus hex head bolts.

Sizing Ranges

Diameters range from 5/16″ to 1″ with lengths up to 12″

Types

12-point Bolts are manufactured in grades 8, 9, 10.9, and 12.9 for high strength applications. 12-Point bolts can be made with many different materials including alloy steel, Inconel, Monel, A286 as well as many others.

PlatingApplications

Finishes include black oxide, zinc, yellow zinc, phosphate and oil, and cadmium.

Applications

Key industries and applications that use 12-point bolts:

  • Aerospace and Defense: Utilize 12-point bolts for critical, high-load, and structural components in aircraft engines and landing gear
  • Automotive and Motors: Use 12-point bolts for high-performance engines, transmissions, suspension, and steering systems due to their resistance to extreme heat and vibration
  • Oil and Gas and Power Generation: Use 12-point bolts for high-pressure equipment where maximum clamp load is required
  • Heavy Machinery and Mining: Use 12-point bolts for construction equipment like bulldozers and excavators, for their durability
  • Industrial Manufacturing and Automation: Use 12-point bolts in conveyor systems, industrial machinery, and precision applications

Advantages
• 12-point bolts have a smaller head diameter than standard hex head bolts which provides easier installation in tight spaces or bored holes.
• Constructed from alloy steel, 12-point bolts are used in high-stress and high-load-bearing structures and engines.
